Jeff Goulette, Oracle
Although often required, working with multiple file requests from Oracle Support can be a challenging, time consuming exercise. The OAUG’s Customer Support Council has led the way in requesting a new approach to Oracle Support-driven file requests WITHOUT requiring the APPS password!
Introducing the Value Chain Planning (VCP) diagnostic single-submission concurrent program, version 1.
The new Perl program is submitted as a concurrent process and includes the following diagnostic programs:

  • VCP Collections Analyzer.
  • VCP Partitions Analyzer.
  • APScheck.sql and the new APScheck parser Perl program.
  • MSCplan10.sql.

All output is easily identified as the concurrent request parent ID is embedded into the output of each diagnostic file name. This approach eliminates the database administrator (DBA) role, enabling the submission of a concurrent process without the APPS password.

Current Process: (Can take hours or days depending on work load involving analysts and DBAs)

Analysts open SR SR requests Apscheck Analysts request DBAs run apscheck DBAs run sql and send file either to the SR or back to the analyst to upload Analysts or Oracle to confirm correct file uploaded.

Improved Process with Analyzer: (Ideally would take minutes or up to an hour and only involves analysts)

Analysts open SR SR requests Apscheck Analysts run concurrent program and provide zip file to the SR.

The final output directory may be chosen at the time of submission. The diagnostic output files are then zipped into a single file having the parent request ID as part of the name. The zip file can then be uploaded to Oracle Support, satisfying Service Request (SR) automation requirements.

The current available diagnostics will grow into a multiple-choice list in version 2, including the VCP Data Collections Log parser, the ASCP Performance Analyzer and the ASCP Plan Output Analyzer. Additionally, version 2 may include Demantra Demand Management Analyzers, APPS Check Diagnostic output (APPS Check diagnostics are EBS based while APS Check is VCP based) and possibly Oracle Cloud based diagnostics.

Roundtable Discussion: Working with Oracle Support
The OAUG Customer Support Council is hosting facilitated discussions during the COLLABORATE 19 – OAUG Forum to allow attendees to share their support-related challenges and requests as part of the OAUG’s advocacy to Oracle Support. Reserve your spot to participate in these discussions.
Your Voice to Oracle: The OAUG Customer Support Council
OAUG members have the unique privilege of having a unified voice for communicating collective priorities for the future development, direction and enhancement of Oracle Applications products. OAUG members can express wishes and concerns to Oracle with the support and strength of the greater OAUG community.

The OAUG Customer Support Council
works at the grassroots level to collect information from members to identify needs or areas of concern. The council then works with Oracle Support to evaluate and address priority topics. Submit an Oracle Support-related request, question or concern to the council at support@oaug.org.
