President’s Perspective

Transformation DOESN’T STOP HERE
Transformation DOESN’T STOP HERE
Douglas Manning, OATUG President

“Transformation, like life itself, is adapting to the multitude of various events that involve constant change at which we all strive to succeed.”
It is hard to believe it has been a year since I picked up the gavel as your Board president.

We knew this year was going to be one like no other — one of introspection, change and transformation.

We brought our members a new look, a new website, new resources and even a new name. What you didn’t necessarily see is the groundwork we laid before we began that journey. We revalidated who we are and who we wanted to be, what set us apart and what brought us together.

The questions the board asked of itself, asked of our members and worked diligently to identify pertained to, “What is the essence that defines OATUG?” After our research and discussions, four words stood out that identified and described the core and foundational elements of who OATUG is as an organization:

  • Dynamic
  • Trusted
  • Relatable
  • Relevant

To be dynamic – It was time to acknowledge the technology component that has always been a part of our organization from a knowledge and education sharing standpoint and one so intertwined with the product areas we all use and support.

OAUG Spring 2019 - Taking Off to Oracle Analytics Cloud
Crystal Pace, Brake Parts Inc.
Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) that can be used to integrate applications, automate processes, create applications and analyze results. The extensive library of pre-built adapters allows you to extend your Software as a Service (SaaS) and on-premises applications.
Using OIC, you can create processes (workflows) that provide end-to-end visibility and control, without having to be a developer.

Brake Parts Inc. started utilizing Oracle Process Cloud in 2017 to automate business processes. In 2018, we migrated from Process Cloud to OIC. Today, we have over 95 workflows in production, with tasks that touch literally every department in the company. Using the built-in reporting functions, enhanced tracking capabilities and the new ‘@assignees’ feature allows us to keep track of where tasks are, realize where the bottlenecks are and ensure tasks are completed on a timely basis.

TECH TALK
Anatomy of an EBS Upgrade typography
James J. Morrow, BlueStone Solutions Group, Inc.
Even though every upgrade and every platform migration is different, they all distill down to the same basic steps. The differences between them tend to arise from the combinations of platforms, versions and modules, as well as the variances in “what’s current” from Oracle at the time of the upgrade. As always, you should refer to the Oracle-provided documentation when planning your project.
Where to Begin?

As with many things Oracle, you may find yourself piecing together several documents. Start with the E-Business Suite (EBS) upgrade manual (available on http://docs.oracle.com), which will provide a general guide to the upgrade process for EBS. You can also find most of the additional information you need at the EBS R12.2 Information Center on My Oracle Support [MOS 1581299.1]. If you need to upgrade the database and/or do a platform migration, follow these documents. If you’re doing a platform migration, the only things that you’re actually migrating are the database and any customizations. Odds are, any of your customizations are platform independent.

Value Chain Planning (VCP) Diagnostic Single-submission Concurrent Program: an update
The spring 2019 edition of OATUG Insight magazine highlighted the release of version one of the Value Chain Planning (VCP) diagnostic tool.

Version one, for the first time, afforded database administrators (DBA) and functional super users the ability to produce output for several diagnostic programs related to Value Chain Planning (VCP Collections Analyzer, VCP Partitions Analyzer, APScheck.sql and the new APScheck parser Perl program, as well as the MSCplan10.sql) by submitting a single Concurrent Program. The output was saved to the chosen folder with options for selection of APPLTMP, APPLPTMP, /usr/tmp and /tmp.

Version two, released in June 2019, provided customers with the ability to choose a “custom” folder for the output, where individuals who do not have unlimited access to the applications tier could retrieve results without the assistance of an admin or DBA. To do this, the individual would specify the parameter “Z” and enter the complete physical path of the folder on the application tier. See Figure 1.

In this article, I will discuss the mobile applications from Oracle currently available for Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS). I will provide an overview of the methods for connectivity, considerations for configuration and, finally, I will discuss a process for customization of the Mobile Approvals App to show custom workflow objects.
What Are the Oracle Mobile Apps?

Oracle Mobile Apps provide simple, on-the-go access to a range of business functions across the organization, including approvals, requisitions, timecards and more.

Why People Still Matter

Derryn Brenan, More4Apps
As our world adopts more artificial intelligence, machine learning and automation, how does this affect the morale, security and fulfillment of our workforce?

Much has been written about the impact of digital transformation on employees. Richard Chatterton’s article in Digitalist Magazine earlier this year outlines a number of strategies for HR managers to consider in light of this trend.

Software may be designed to automate even complex tasks, but it is human intelligence that is capable of innovation, creativity and real problem-solving. Enabling machines to handle the tasks that CAN be automated can in turn release an organization’s human resources to express their unique abilities in the areas of business process improvement and the development of newer and better products or systems. In doing so, leaders create the most important wealth possible: a fulfilled and passionate team of people.
